Жили-были Сеня и Даня…

Sean and Dan
In a big, big city, in a brand new house, in an apartment at the very highest floor lived a small boy called Sean. Sean’s house faced the hills. They were beautiful. There was a sea behind the hills.
In the new apartment, along with Sean, lived his mother, father and cat. More precisely, a kitten. The cat was called Push. Sean got him recently – on the day they moved in. Push ran around the yet empty rooms, smelt the air, the corners and after that mom started unpack stuff and unload the crockery.
Sean played with the cat and was happy about the relocation.
But later he was sad. He didn’t know anyone in the new house. There were too little people living there. Through the window he could see the construction site. A crane worked there. The crane spun, moved its hook and ropes – was building another house. By the evening it was tired, and so it stopped building.
And then, Sean saw a star. It was a very little star. It rested nicely on the boom of the crane and shone brightly.
Sean slightly closed his eyes, and the star winked. Was that for him? Or maybe not?
«What if it grants my wish?I wish that a boy ,the same as I am, moves into the house which the crane is building! We will meet each other and will become friends. He will be my best friend!»
The star winked – then disappeared.
«How sad!» – Sean sighed.
Meanwhile, in a different place, in a very old house, on the lowest floor lived a small boy called Dan. There was a wasteland right behind his house. There was a garbage dump in the wasteland.
Dan lived with his mother. He had a dog named Dick. Dick and Dan often played together. Dan had nobody else to play with. There were no kids left in the old house near the garbage dump. Everybody relocated a long time ago. But Dan and Mom stayed. They didn’t have enough money to relocate.
If only Dad came back! Dad left for work. Far, far away...
In the window of his room Dan had a view of an old tree. It was a pine tree. It was here long before there was a dump. Even before they built the house. One day, a big star landed on one of its branches.
The star seemed humongous. It rested comfortably on the long green needles and twinkled in the dark.
Dan slightly closed his eyes, and the big star winked.
Dan thought: «It is that sort of star… I will make a wish… I wish that Dad would return. And to live in a new house. And have a friend».
The bright star winked again, and then disappeared.
«Oh well…» – Dan sighed.
…In the morning he was woken up by joyous voices.
‒ Dan! Dad is back!
‒ Son! Oh, how heavy you are! – Dad hugged Dan and tried to lift him a bit. – How’s everything going? How’s Dick? Is he happy? I found another job! – Dad laughed. – We will move soon. We will live in a big city, in a new house. We will look at the hills. Behind the hills, guess what, Dan, – the sea!
Dann hugged his dad and squinted really really hard. The opened his eyes and quickly looked in the window. It was a bright morning. But on the branch sat another star…

Отличный перевод, но не без небрежностей started unpack stuff and unload the crockery - to unpack или unpacking too little people - too few people «How sad!» – Sean sighed - what a pity! Dan didn't squint, he shut his eyes really tight But on the branch sat another star… - but on the branch there still sat a star (there's nothing in the text about it being a different star)
